The last few years has seen a large rise in the number of internet poker players that are already playing internet poker as a pro or are planning on doing so quite soon. The rise in player numbers has seen a similiar increase in the volume of poker strategy advice that is being offered to poker players. You can have ebooks, videos, coaching, schooling or join any number of poker strategy sites to get help with your poker game. And along with all that comes the online poker software that you need to have in order to be a winning internet poker player. Tools such as poker odds calculators, hand trackers and stats trackers are seen as a neccessity for any serious poker player.

But what about the casual poker player that simply wants to play just for entertainment and not outlay too much money on it? Still, not every player wants to be a professional player, but the prospect of sitting into a table of eight or nine wannabe pro players would be daunting to most casual players.

Even though the amount of online players has risen dramatically over the last few years, the number of profitable players remains about the same percentage as ever. The fact is that only between five and ten percent of poker players will ever be profitable.

A group of poker players will break even, to some extent, over their poker lifetime. Even so, most players will be losing players regardless of what tools or software they use.

Contrary to popular opinion, it is ok to be a losing poker player. Playing just for fun can be just as rewarding as any other hobby or pastime. WIth a small amount of knowledge a recreational player can enjoy their hobby with out having to spend too much cash. In real terms it can often be a lot less costly to play a bit of internet poker for a night than to go out to a bar or restaurant.

Keep in mind as well that there is always the possibility that even poor poker players could have a profit making night. Most trips to a restaurant, bar or movie won't have the chance of being profitable for you.

There is a social side to the game that is not matched by other mainstream in home entertainments.

You should really concentrate on the positive benefits that are to be had from playing poker, even though it may be costing you some money. You may enjoy it even more.
